The bustling, high-tech capital Taipei is by far the most expensive part of the island. You’ll find most of the country’s finest international hotels here
On a budget? Explore beyond Taipei as soon as you can. Take the high-speed train that runs the length of the country to find mountain landscapes and lush rainforests
If you’re under 30, you can get a discount Taiwan Rail (TR) Pass at major train stations
Across the country, “homestays” (mínsù) offer a taste of the real Taiwan and a more homely environment than corporate hotel chains
Don’t tip – it’s not just unnecessary, it can be illegal (in fact, tipping in taxis is against the law)
Admission into government-run historical sites like temples is usually low cost or free
The New Taiwan dollar (abbreviated to TWD) is the official currency of Taiwan. The word ‘new’ is added only in formal contexts to avoid confusion, though these days confusion is unlikely. Its currency symbol is NT$, but you may also see it as 圓 and 元 locally.
The currency is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and is one of over 60 currencies available commission-free from 69ÌÃ. You can  o°ù&²Ô²ú²õ±è;buy your currency in selected branches
The New Taiwan dollar is used only by Taiwan. No other country or territory uses the Taiwanese dollar.
The country is officially known as the Republic of China or ROC (different from the People’s Republic of China, which we know simply as China).
You can  o°ù in selected branches with 69Ìà (find a nearby participating branch). It’s easy, commission-free and we’ll give you a competitive rate.
You may get a better rate buying online rather than branch. The rate gets better the more Taiwan dollars you buy. And you’ll save money if you can wait until the exchange rate is good.
Order with click and collect and, if it’s before 3pm on a working day, you can pick your currency up in any branch the next working day. Or we can straight to your home.

The lowest denomination is the 1 dollar coin. Other coins available are the 5, 10, 20 and 50 dollar coins. You may encounter some half-dollar coins, but they’re no longer issued.
